That these were all created by African American people. These revolutionary and groundbreaking genres that have had an immeasurable impact on a global scale were born of our culture as African Americans. Not only are we trendsetters, we are innovators who will craft a new art form then turn it on it’s head a hundred different ways. Nobody but us is “changing the game” as they say whenever some white, nonblack person of color or non AA black deigns that they want to dip their toes into our culture. Never let them tell you otherwise even though they’ll try revising history to say “We were always there” when we know they were doing the same thing as their white counterparts and looking down on what we created as “Devil’s music”. They have no claim. The sheer fact that every non African American is greedily scrambling to lay claim to what we made is proof enough that not only do we have a culture but it’s a rich, beautiful and dynamic one.
